Jr. Mad Scientists and Mathemagicians (5-12)+Teen Mentorship (ages 13-18)
From 12:00 pm to 1:50 pm
Are you wild about wildlife? Do you enjoy trying to unravel certain mysteries of the universe? Would you like to create a few magical potions and mini explosions? If so, then it’s in your DNA to be a junior mad scientist! In this class, math and science will be integrated together so that both subjects are meaningful and fun. Depending on the session and week, we’ll explore science topics related to life and earth science, chemistry and basic physics. In the winter, we’re most likely to study astronomy, electricity, oceanography and other concepts that can be learned indoors. In the spring, we’ll literally dig into some botany, and keep our eyes peeled as amateur ornithologists, among other things. Math will be taught both in isolation and as a part of scientific experimentation. Concepts will include patterns, number sequences, problem solving, graphing, measurement, time, money, integers (whole numbers and their negative counterparts), basic fractions and geometry. Games, experiments, projects, discussions, reading selections and even music will create the foundation for learning and FUN!
Mentorship Opportunity for ages 13-18
Are you a teen (13-18) who would enjoy working with younger students as a way of earning “parent hours” for other classes you wish to take at eNDVR? If so, this is a perfect opportunity for you. Mentors will take on the role of instructor assistants, helping set up and take down activities and assisting younger children with a variety of skill development tasks. Depending on the session and class, you will help children engage in project-based activities that include reading, writing, puppet theater, math, social studies, science and center activities. In order to take this class, you must commit to coming on a consistent basis so younger students can count on you being there.
If you wish to be a teen mentor, you MUST enroll in the morning Extreme Mad Scientist class and you must also have prior approval from Elaine. Please contact Elaine before registering as a teen mentor.
