Mindfulness and Meditation (ages 9+)
From 11:30 am to 12:20 pm
According to the Greater Good Science Center, mindfulness means…
” maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment.
Mindfulness also involves acceptance, meaning that we pay attention to our thoughts and feelings without judging them—without believing, for instance, that there’s a “right” or “wrong” way to think or feel in a given moment. When we practice mindfulness, our thoughts tune into what we’re sensing in the present moment rather than rehashing the past or imagining the future.” (http://greatergood.berkeley.edu/topic/mindfulness/definition)
During this time, students will enjoy their lunch while practicing mindful eating. They will then participate in a meditation that may last up to 30 minutes. This practice can be helpful for students with ADHD or who have trouble calming themselves down, as well as students who enjoy a calm and relaxing environment for lunch.
