Montana Mysteries (all ages)
From 11:30 am to 3:30 pm |
We’re going to take Montana Mysteries on the road this coming spring session! Each Friday we’ll take a field trip, either to Elaine’s outdoor education center at Blue Mountain B&B, or to another destination. You can think of our Blue Mountain picnic area as eNDVR’s satellite school in the woods, surrounded by wild flowers and lots of peace and quiet! We will meet at eNDVR at 11:30 to car pool up to Blue Mountain. Students will return to eNDVR by 3:30.* Some of the classes activities will include stories and songs in the teepee, science related crafts and projects, social studies, and the math topic of the day. There will be nature walks, plant, insect, and rock identification, reflective nature writing, etc. In case of rain/cold weather, students can learn in a heated cabin-shed or teepee. There are picnic tables and a composting toilet on site, water but no electricity.
Some of the topics we will be covering are: Ethno-botany (native plants and people- use of plants for food and medicinal purposes), equine introduction (horses used by Native People, ranchers and farmers), Lewis and Clark and the Lolo/Nez Perce Trail, and Mapping Montana and forest fun (Montana tribes, natural resources, history time-line).
For the longer, scheduled field trips we will meet at eNDVR at 9:45 and we would expect to return after 4:00. Field trips will be announced the week before. Some of the planned field trips include Grant-Kohrs Ranch, Travelers’ Rest, St. Ignatius, Garnet Ghost Town.
Students will need to bring a sack lunch, a backpack, sun screen, water bottle, snack, hat, coat, hand sanitizer, Kleenex, band aids, and zip lock/paper bags for collecting items.
*If you can’t drive your child/children, then you MUST arrange for a ride from another parent or Elaine ahead of time!
