Class Leader

Elaine Anderson-Wood

Students who sign up for this six hour course will learn about some of Montana’s most noteworthy, historical figures and then choose to write about and/or portray their favorite person during a dinner theater event at Blue Mountain Bed & Breakfast.  To make the research intriguing, realistic and personal, they will take field trips to local pictographs, old stage stops, grave markers, possibly the old prison, a battle field, and more.  They will “meet” some truly interesting characters along the way: Calamity Jane and her friend Madame Mustache, “Club Foot” George, Henry Plummer, “Skookum” Bill Woodman, “Stagecoach Mary,” Yee Hoo Joe, Stone Child, Chief Looking Glass, and Jedidiah Smith.  The students will have many different options to showcase what they have learned during the class, from performing a role during the dinner theater, or writing parts for other dinner participants, or behind the scenes activities, such as, preparing recipes, props, serving, or playing music.  This class is meant to be very process oriented and fun so that the product is generated in a creative way and not artificially forced. With that in mind the final production will either take place at the end of session one or beginning of session 2.  Teens may earn high school credit in English, History, the Arts, and other areas depending on specific participant choices.  Since this is such an unusual class, please feel free to contact Elaine if you have any question.  531-3777
