Wood Carving (ages 12+)

Thursday, December 1, 2016 to Thursday, December 1, 2016
From 9:00 am to 10:00 am

Wood carving is an advanced carving class which will be using tools such as sharp knives, gouges and chisels. Because of the type of tools being used, students must be 12 years or older and parents must sign a waver. In this class, students will learn how to safely use woodcarving tools with different techniques and effects. Classes will have a lot of carving time and individual problem solving. There will be many different samples from artists and carvings available to look at. All wood and tools will be provided.

Parents must attend the first class session for 15 minutes to meet the instructor, to learn about what tools the students will be using, and to sign the waver. Because of the nature of this class, there will be minor cuts with a possibility of more serious cuts resulting in stitches needed. The first class will be an introduction to the different tools, along with a safety talk and short demos. Afterward there will be hands on demonstration time with the tools and different ways to carve. Samples of relief carving and carving-in-the-round will be available.

In order for all 12 students to be able to participate, parents may need to stay and help students with their projects and to help supervise the use of the tools.
